A Fine, Imposing 17th Century Scottish Oak Armorial Wainscot Chair. The panel back emblazoned with the coat of arms of The Macloed Family of Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye in a moulded lozenge with scrolled thistle heads to the corners, below a cross rail carved ‘MACLEOD 1645′. The impressive domed cresting rail surmounted by turned finials and carved with a bewigged skull between outswept feathery wings above a scrolled cartouche gouge carved with chi-rho monogram and voluted S-scrolls enhanced with punchwork. The uprights adorned with pairs of split spindle appliqués and having foliate carved -ear-pieces’ either side. The arms on ring moulded rising baluster posts leading down to a planked seat with moulded edge above similarly turned legs united by low peripheral stretchers, 53¾” (136.5 cm) high, 26½” (67 cm) wide at the extremities.
