Description
A Spanish Iron-Mounted Parcel-Gilt & Polychrome Painted Walnut & Chestnut Vargueño on Taquillón, 17th Century. The upper section mounted with ornamental panels of pierced iron within cast ropetwist borders, painted gold and contrasted against red baize backing, incorporating drop handles, sliding side catches and a decorative hasp and lockplate, with swing handles mounted either side. The profusely decorated interior housing various drawers and compartments. The taquillon base with scallop shell capped lopers above two pairs of deep drawers elaborately decorated with intricate geometric mouldings and enriched with polychrome paintwork & gilding, with further carrying handle to the sides and terminating on turned ball feet, 61” (155 cm) high, 42” (107 cm) wide, 17¾” (45 cm) deep.
