Four 18th Century Bilston Enamel Patch Boxes. The largest printed in black with a scenic view to the round slightly domed lid, and pale lavender blue sides, 2½” (6.5 cm) in diameter. The next of navette form with inscription to lid; ‘O Mortal Man in every Act Beware, Since one wrong step may mar and Age of care, Ever thy credit keep tis quickly gone, Tho gain’d by many Actions lost by one’, bordered by a string of raised white beads above cobalt blue enamelled sides. The third of oval form with inscription ‘May A Lasting Peace with Prosperity attend old England’ to the domed lid above pale lavender enamelled sides. The smallest round example inscribed ‘I’ll ne’er request you to obey, unless it be to love like me’.
