An 18th Century Carved Coquilla Nut. The egg-shaped nut elaborately carved with three portrait busts of a man, woman & priest within oval beaded chains of fruit and flowers bordered by rope-twist cord with pendant tassels in between. One end pierced; the hole forming the mouth of a comical creature face inset with bead eyes. The other end carved with a rosette. 3” (8 cm) in length.
