A 17th Century Carved Oak Coffer, typical of those produced in East Devon. The twin panel lid with moulded edge, gouge carved to the front with initials IE and date 1697 either side of a tulip-head. The interior housing a till to one end with a run moulded lid on peg hinges stamped with punchwork embellishments each end. The three front panels profusely carved with stylized flowering plants enlivened with chip carving and defined against a recessed punch-worked ground. The framework carved to the front and sides with twinned S-scrolls. 31½” (80 cm) high, 44” (112 cm) wide, 21½” (55 cm) deep.
