Description
A Large & Impressive French Oak Renaissance Coffer, 16th Century. The planked lid with cut in cleats either ends above twin panelled sides enriched with linen fold carving, and five Romayne panels to the facade, each carved with a profile portrait head in a moulded roundel raised on a fluted urn amidst scrolls of foliage. The central panel shorter in height to accommodate an intricate iron lock-plate above. The muntins adorned with slender scale carved pilasters with spire finials. Standing on a moulded plinth base 33” (84 cm) high, 66½” (169 cm) wide, 26” (66 cm) deep.
