Description
A Fine Mid-Late 17th Century Carved Oak Wainscot Chair attributed to South-West Yorkshire., with a good colour and patination. The tall back surmounted by a shaped cresting rail edged in voluted S-scrolls above leafy reserves peppered with nail-punched embellishments; the coiled ends forming upswept lobes above a guilloche band jutting out either side of the similarly carved uprights flanked by scrolling ‘ear-piece’ spandrels. The back composed of a nulled upper panel and lozenge carved principal panel between chip rail rails. The down-swept arms incised with decoration and resting on baluster turned posts leading to a plank seat with engrailed sides. Standing on baluster legs united by peripheral stretchers, 48” (122 cm) high, 22½” (57 cm) wide, the seat 18” (46 cm) in height.
