Circle of Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680) A Fine Oil on Canvas: three-quarter length portrait of King Charles II dressed ‘alla romana’ sat turned to the left with his eye fixed on the viewer; his right hand resting on a baton with his left on his hip. The royal subject posed before a draped curtain with a fluted stone column to one side and glimpse of the sky beyond, 48” x 39” (122 cm x 99 cm). Set in a moulded ebonised frame 52¾” x 43½” (134 cm x 110 cm). [very similar to a portrait in The Nation Trust Collection at Ham House, Surrey NT 1139949]
