A Fine Charles I Oak Wainscot Chair of rich colour & patination. The profusely carved back surmounted by a deep scrolling cresting rail with voluted lobe terminals above a small scallop-edged recess panel carved in relief with a cockatrice and Tudor rose defined against a matted ground. The principal back panel richly carved with a flowering plant issuing scrolling stems of fanned blooms, tulips & leaves enlivened with punchwork and heightened by the cut away matted ground with scallop edge. The scroll end arms on baluster posts leading to a planked seat above chip carved rails and turned legs united by peripheral stretchers, 43¼” (110 cm) high, 24” (61 cm) wide, the seat 16” (41 cm) high.
