Description
A Fine 18th/19th Century Walnut Box Settle richly decorated with flamboyant carving. The open carved back with a split swan-neck pediment centred by a soldier wearing a helm and holding a sword & shield; standing between flambeaux crossed with quivers of arrows and two medallions hung on ribbon bows flanked by seated cherubs blowing horns. The scrolling arms raised above winged caryatids adjoining a long plank seat. The facade boldly carved with winged dragons and cherubs straddling garlands of fruit and foliage centred by a large grotesque face mask amidst broad intertwined straps fashioned in the voluted scroll feet, 46½” (118 cm) high, 72” (83 cm) wide, 20” (51 cm) deep.
