Description
A 19th Century Renaissance Revival Cassoné boldly carved with a crowned armorial crest to the lid flanked by exuberant zoomorphic scrolls, edged with gadrooning. The front centred by a scrolled cartouche fitted with iron hasp and lock-plate with traces of residual gilding above a grotesque face mask, flanked by portrait medallions amidst scrolls of foliage and mythical creatures. The sides with further voluted cartouches fitted with swing handles. The corners with sweeping griffin headed caryatids leading down to lunette carved bulge-moulded base raised on lion paw feet, 22” (86 cm) high, 37½” (95 cm) wide, 17½” (44.5 cm) deep.
