Description
A Large Collection of Oak Room Panelling 16th/17th Century & Later, with marquetry & scratch-work enriching four of the larger sections, and seven fluted pilasters surmounted by carved Elizabethan heads; possibly the depictions of Sir Francis Drake, Elizabeth I and others. Comprising of two large sections of 6 panel width, two sections of five panel width, one section of three panel width, six sections of two panel width and three sections of one panel width, two under window sections of four panel width and four smaller sections of three panel width. [Provenance: Purchased from Buckland Abbey, after a chimney fire in 1938. The last member of the Drake family (Capt. Richard Owen-Tapps-Gervaise-Meyrick) inherited Buckland Abbey in 1937 but sold up after the fire) The overall height is 84” (213 cm) and the run extends to 548” (13m 716 cm) approx a 45ft run in width.
