Michele Cortazzi (Ceraso, 1800 about – Rome 1865) A Large 19th Century Italian Oil on Canvas: An allegorical scene in an earlier style depicting two females in landscape to the centre, a shepherd stood before them with sheep drinking from well at their feet. The verso inscribed M Cortazzi Roman 1860, 39½” x 44½” (100 cm x 123 cm). Set in an 18th century Florentine carved giltwood frame pierced and boldly carved with scrolls of acanthus, 39½” x 59½” (130 cm x 150 cm) [Michele Cortazzi was an old master copyist who had a studio on the Via del Corso in Rome].
