A Fine 17th Century Joined Oak Coffer. The four panel lid divided by channel moulded muntins and having a moulded front edge once used as a measure scored & numbered with a 27 inch length followed by inch divisions thereon, and opening to reveal a lidded candle box within. The triple panel facade having a lunette carved frieze of fanned demilunes above decoratively carved panels: The centre panel emblazoned with a flowering plant topped by a fanned bloom above scrolling stems issuing leaves and quatrefoils defined against a recessed pitted ground. The side panels centred by diamond framed quatrefoils within moulded roundels and bud & leaf spandrels. The muntins, base rail and tall stile supports enhanced with channel moulding. 25½” (65 cm) high, 46 cm (117 cm) wide, 19¾” (50 cm) deep.
