Description
A Large 17th Century Oak Bible/Desk Box, Lake District. The sloped lid on iron butterfly hinges, stamped with ornamental zig-zag bands to the borders and having chip carved engrailing to the ends. The sides boards enhanced with palmate carving above nulled frieze bands. The front board decorated with a pair of daisy wheels entwined within a guilloche scroll with voluted terminals and punchwork embellishments, the carving defined against a matted ground. The base with applied chip-carved moulding, 14” (36 cm) high, 27” (69 cm) wide, 21½” (55 cm) deep.*
