Description
A 17th Century Oak Wainscot Chair. The arcaded panel back profusely carved with an urn of meandering foliage and a pair of winged griffins feeding on berries either side, framed by a guilloché carved arch with flower heads and leafy spurs adorning the corners. The cresting rail enriched with further zoomorphic creatures issuing sprays of foliage from their mouths surmounted by a pair of S-scrolls flanking a lion mask. The scroll end arms on quirky mismatched posts leading down to a planked seat above carved rails and rising baluster turned legs united by peripheral stretchers. One leg stamped to the top IE, 49½” (126 cm) high, 24” (61 cm) wide, the seat 20½” (52 cm) high.
