Description
An Early 17th Century & Later Carved Oak & Marquetry Buffet. The canted upper cupboard having arcaded panel door and sides inlaid with fluted urns cascading exuberant scrolls of interlaced stems bearing foliage & foliage beneath scallop-edged arches carved with undulating vines. The frames inlaid with decorative geometric bands, adorned with ebonised ovolu appliqués and split spindles to the divides. The upper frieze marquetried with a trail of fruit & flowers flanked by carved face-masks above ebonised four-column supports. The cupboard above a marquetried frieze drawer edged with a carved apron rail of S-scrolls and raised on tall front stiles with carved caryatids and decorative appliqués, and a geometrically panelled back with inlay, leading down to a plinth base 63” (160 cm) high, 49” (125 cm) wide, 16” (41 cm) deep.
