Description
An Unusual 17th Century Joined Oak Armchair inlaid with marquetry dog-tooth bands. The wide, plain top rail enhanced with inlay and projecting either side above foliate carved spandrels flanking dog-tooth inlaid uprights. The centre panel enriched with an arcaded design of arabesque strapwork incorporating a lozenge motif to the centre surmounted by a fanned flower head. The arms angled down to meet turned cannon-barrel posts leading to a rope seat threaded through drilled rails; the moulded front rail branded with initials HM, above an open-fronted box-form base with a panel back and sides and a low stretcher connecting the plain front legs, 38 ins (97 cm) high, 29 ins (74 cm) wide, approx. 24 ins (61 cm) deep.
