Description
An Elizabethan Boarded Oak Coffer, Circa 1600. The single plank lid run-moulded with triple-reed bands to the front & back, and having chip carved ends, on iron strap hinges (one replaced) opening to reveal a lidded till to the interior. The front board carved with two lozenge motifs; one contained the initial ‘R’ , the other ‘P’, with a naive gouge carved ‘tree’ to the centre below the lock-plate, and chip carved engrailing either side. The supporting end board with cut in feet centred by carved crosses, 18” (46 cm) high, 38¼” (97 cm) wide, 14” (36 cm) deep.
