Description
A Delightful Late 16th/Early 17th Century Boarded Oak Slope-front Box inlaid with marquetry (A/F) . The top branded with initials IP above the hinged slope lid inlaid with a flowering plant bearing a carnation bloom rising up to the centre flanked by scrolling sinewy stems issuing further flowers and foliage either side, with moulded edge (with loss). The sides painted with further foliate decoration of similar design to the lid, the front fitted with a shaped iron escutcheon, 6½” (16.5 cm) high, 11” (28 cm) wide, 7½” (19 cm) deep.
