A Most Unusual Quaker Medallion Sampler by Priscilla Sturge worked in deep pink & blue silks and intialed PS in a floral cartouche to the middle. The full/half medallions of typical Quaker form. [Priscilla came from two prominent Quaker families; her parents being Joseph Sturge and Mary Marshall, prosperous farmers around Sheepcombe. Priscilla was born 1797 and died 1835; she married Samuel Southall and was the grandmother of the artist Joseph Southall whose name is on the back of the sampler along with his relationship to Priscilla; hence the identification].11” x 12¼ (28 cm x 31 cm) excluding frame.
