Description
A Fine Quality Early 18th Century Walnut Eight Day Long-case Clock. The 12 inch (30.5 cm) square brass dial bordered by an engraved band of imbricated leaves incorporating maker’s name JOHN KNIBB OXON to the base. The corners adorned with winged cherub head spandrels, the silvered chapter ring marked with blacked Roman numerals alternated with fleur-de-lis half hour markers and having Arabic five minute markers to the outer track. The matted centre with silvered seconds ring and calendar aperture. The case having a moulded caddy topped hood surmounted by gilt brass flambeau urn finials above bands of intricate blind fret carving and turned gilt capped integral columns flanking the dial. The trunk having a long burr-figured door edged in ovolu moulding. The cross-banded base on moulded plinth rails, 100 in (254 cm) overall in height.
