Stitched in black with verse ‘On Virtue’ encircled by a garland of pink flowers and displaying a strong Quaker influence in the font (an almost identical to another sampler by Harriet’s sister Mary dated 1798, with initials ‘S.G’s School’; the initials of Sarah Greenfield thought to be a close relative of the girl’s mother, who ran the school at Nailsea). Set in original ebonised frame and measuring 14½” x 12¼” (37 cm x 31 cm) excluding frame.
