Description
A Fine & Rare Mid 18th Century Grande-Sonnerie Longcase Clock by Seddon of Frodsham. The 12½ inch dial having an engraved laurel wreath band to the border, a silvered chapter ring with Roman numeral hour counters alternated with fleur de lis half hour markers within a ring of Arabic numeral five minute markers. The centre unusually backed in black felt with striking effect; enhancing the subsidiary seconds ring, brass lined winding holes and calendar aperture with pierced surround inscribed ‘Seddon’. The arch incorporating a moon-phase indicator contrasted against the black felt lined centre. The movement striking the hour and chimes at each quarter. The inlaid oak case with a parquetry star to the door and base. The hood with domed pediment above an intricate fret-carved frieze band on fluted side columns. 87 in (221 cm) high.
