Jan van Ravesteyn (C. 1572-1657) Oil on Marouflaged Panel. A Fabulous 17th Century Half Length Portrait of a Young Woman initialed JVR and dated 1631 upper right. The subject depicted smiling, wearing a lace headdress adorned with a twisted band of seed-pearls, pearl drop earrings & a pearl necklace veiled in fine muslin intricately detailed with white lace border around her shoulders. The lace contrasting effectively against her black dress with puffed slash-work sleeves and a white band tied in a bow around her waist. The panel 28” x 24¼” (71 cm x 62 cm). Set in a good quality 18th century carved giltwood frame 35½” x 31½” (90 cm x 80 cm). [Provenance: Ex Collection of Alfred Morrison M.P. of Fonthill House, Tisbury, Wiltshire.
