A Rare Elizabethan Stool, Circa 1585. The clover-leaf top having a moulded edge, above three fluted legs surrounding a central carved & nulled column leading down to a wrythen sledge-footed base. 21” (53.5 cm) high. [Provenance reputedly from S. Wolseley through various ownerships to the present private vendor . A near identical example of this stool, is illustrated in Victor Chinnery’s book; ‘Oak Furniture, The British Tradition’ and was sold with The Rous Lench Collection, Sotheby’s 3rd July 1986 for £11,000 and later exhibited by picture in the catalogue; ‘England at the Time of The Armada’ 1988, and is now understood to be in a New York Museum.]
