A Fine Set of Charles II Joined Oak Dining Chairs, of rich colour and patination. The five side chairs having shaped cresting rails each carved with a wrythen whorl to the centre and flanked by lobe cut terminals of the plain uprights. The moulded panel backs emblazoned with a rectangular design composed of fielded triangular panels with moulded borders forming a diagonal cross to the centre. The plank seats with moulded edges on ball & fillet turned legs united by similarly turned high front stretchers and plain rails to the sides and rear. The accompanying armchair having a conforming diagonal cross moulded back panel beneath a crested top rail embellished with tulip head and ball flowers defined against a recessed pitted ground. The arms resting on canon barrel turned posts with similarly turned legs united by peripheral stretchers. Together with a set of seat pads and a matching table runner of burnt orange fabric woven with a repeated diamond design bordered in a decorative terracotta and cream braid with fringing, the seat cushions having rear cut-in corners with looped and tasselled cord tie-ons, 18½” (47 cm) wide, 13½” (34 cm) deep. The runner with a decorative braid border and tasselled fringing to each end, 12” x 50” (30 cm x 127 cm).
