Description
A Fabulous William & Mary Burr Yew Veneered Chest on Stand. The chest housing eight small side drawers flanking a cabinet with architecturally moulded door enclosing partitioned shelves within, above two banks of two wider drawers with faux twin-drawer facades. The cabinet door having a broken-arch pediment on break front pilasters, cross-banded with striated tiles of yew-wood and centred by a marquetried compass rose. The drawer fronts clad in intricate burr figured veneers within striated cross-banding, and fitted with small gilt brass knop handles. The base section having a long cock-beaded frieze drawer with embellished brass escutcheon, above a scrolling apron enriched with decorative banding, and raised on five baluster knopped inverted cup turned tapering legs united by a shaped peripheral stretcher and terminating on turned feet, 56” (143 cm) high, 31” (79 cm) wide, 17¼” (44 cm) deep.
