An Early 18th Century Walnut & Marquetry Longcase Clock. The 11” (28 cm) square brass dial inscribed under the silvered chapter ring; ‘William Hawkins of Bramly fecit.’ The matted centre incoprating a silvered seconds ring, ring-turned winding holes and a calendar aperture, the corners adorned with scrolling gilt cherub head spandrels. The case having a slide-off flat topped hood converted from rising with an intricately fretted frieze backed in red fabric and trailing flowers inlaid to the door frame flanked by integral barley-twist columns either side. The long trunk door enriched with marquetried lilies, tulips and carnations displayed against an ebony ground in D-ended panels edged with stringing, and having a glazed oval pendulum view and ebonised D-mouldings to the borders. The base with a square panel of similar floral inlaid, raised on small turned bun feet 81” (206 cm) in height. [Ex Anthony Woodburn].
