An Large & Impressive 17th Century Style Carved Oak Wainscot Chair. The exuberant cresting rail carved with the bust of a man flanked by zoomorphic creatures above a recessed band to the rail inscribed ACTUM EST DE REPUBLICA. The upper back panel relief carved with an allegorical scene depicting a queen in chariot drawn by peacocks, and flanked by scrolling spandrels in the form of scaly sea creatures. The lower arcaded twin panels adorned with turned spindles and emblazoned with the initials CHD and REX C above 1660 to the base rail. The silhouette cut scroll end arms in ring turned posts leading down to a plank seat with chip carved sides on turned legs united by peripheral stretchers, 56” (142 cm) high, 28½” (72.5 cm) wide.
