Description
An Early 18th Century North European Boxwood Snuff Box of circular form. The domed lid carved in low relief with an alter scene depicting monstrance flanked by candlesticks above a hinged lid emblazoned with a heart, defined against a pitted ground and framed by chip carved borders. The underside with a folksy scene; a naive depiction of an ox pulling a plough with drover beneath a large five point star, with fallowed ground with initials ”I.G”, 2¾” (7 cm) in diameter.
