Description
A Charles I Oak Coffer. The plank lid with run-moulded front edge and chip carved ends, on iron staple hinges reinforced with later additions, opening to reveal rebates for a candle trough to one end. The frieze carved with a linked chain of whorl roundels centred by an iron hasp and lock-plate, above three panels carved with gadrooned arches. The front pegged to supporting end boards with stepped V-cut feet, 26” (66 cm) high, 43” (109 cm) wide, 15” (38 cm) deep.
