Description
A 16th Century Oak Chest with parquetry Inlay, circa 1540-60. The rectangular lid on iron strap hinged having stepped border moulding and an ovolu edge, opening to reveal a narrow trough above partitioned compartment to the back and fitted with an iron sprung lock with twin-pincher mechanism, a decoratively shaped escutcheon and key. The front inlaid with initials E.H. above a parquetry banded rectangle with triangular looped corners, framed by applied edge moulding. The side with wrought iron swing handles. Standing on a moulded base 19 in (48 cm) high, 33 in (84 cm) wide, 17 in (43 cm) deep.
