Description
A 17th Century Dark Oak Wainscot Chair. The shaped cresting rail enriched with daisy wheels on stems curled up either side of a central foliate spur, defined against a recessed pitted ground interspersed with berries, and edged with a chip carved band coiled up each end to forming lobe terminals. The back panel decorated with ‘flower-potte’ carving contained in an shallow arch-topped recess, flanked by palmate uprights with S-scroll ‘ear-pieces’ either side. The chunky arms on astragal moulded rising baluster supports above similarly turned legs united by peripheral stretchers. The solid seat above a lunette carved rail, having a swab cushion with woven cover edged with fringing. 44½” (113 cm) high, 22” (56 cm) wide.
