A Pair of Impressive 19th Century Carved Oak High Backed Wainscot Chairs. Each chair having a tall panel back tapered to the top below a scrolling cresting rail dated ‘1596’ and surmounted by a turned finial. The back panel enriched with a foliate carved motif to the centre within an inlaid lozenge band of parquetry blocks surrounded by fruiting vine and bordered by scrolled ‘gadrooning’ The uprights enhanced with similar parquetry bands and topped with turned finials. The downswept arms above planked seats framed by raised rails containing drop-in upholstered seat pads cross-stitched with floral bouquets (A/F). The repeated ball turned legs united by similarly turned front stretchers and plain rails to the sides and rear. 53” (135 cm) high, 20½” (52 cm) wide.
