Description
A 19th Century Oak Fireplace Mantel richly carved with decoration. The frieze displaying a procession of relief carved figures and animals depicted going about their everyday life in a continuous landscape, flanked by small panels of birds perched on boughs, and grotesque face masks either side. The uprights ornamented with inner panels emblazoned with a profiled centurion’s head to the top and pendant garlands of flowers and foliage, with depictions of musicians to the break-front side pilasters, terminating with gadrooned plinth moulding, 46¾” (118.5 cm) high, the top ledge 72¾” (185 cm) wide, 11” (28 cm) deep. The opening 37½” (95 cm) high, 48” (122 cm) wide.
