Description
A Decorative 19th Century French Mantel Clock. The silver & gilt coloured metal case inset with porcelain plaques. The movement striking a bell and stamped 19.4. The pendulum also stamped 1691. The arched 4¾” (12 cm) wide dial decorated in polychrome enamels with a lady & child amongst hollyhocks to the base and trophy d’amour to the centre on a frosted silver ground with black Roman numerals in resist cartouches edged with gilding an bejewelled with tiny ruby enamel beads. The architectural apexed case surmounted by an urn finial, with stop fluted pilasters either side above a plinth base emblazoned with a face mask and raised on toupee feet. The clock standing on a carved giltwood base, 20” (51 cm) overall in height.
