Description
A Large 17th Century Oak Mule Chest enriched with carving and date 1678. The planked lid with moulded edge, on iron strap hinges opening to reveal a lidded compartment to one end with a sliding facade concealing a bank of drawers behind. The frieze carved carved with the initials TH and date, flanked by S-scroll serpents and undulating trails of fruit & flowers. The four arcaded panels boldly carved with flowering plants issuing large fanned blooms to the centre below arches of undulating vines, and divided by tulip carved muntins. The base housing two edge moulded drawers, standing on stile feet 32¾” (83 cm) high, 58” (147 cm) wide, 23¼” (59 cm) deep.
