A 19th Century French Empire Ormolu Mantel Clock. The 5½” (14 cm) convex dial cast with anthemion motifs to the centre within a ring of Roman numerals encircled by bands of vitruvian waves and laurel. The square case surmounted by the classical figure of a bearded male nude draped with a cloak and holding a spear. The rectangular plinth base adorned with a trophy of ribbon bound spears, sprays of laurel and two helmets emblazoned with Athenian owls. The clock raised on owl form supports with serpents entwined around the wings, 21” (53 cm) high, 14¼” (36 cm) wide.
