A Rare Louis XVI Marble & Ormolu Mantel Clock ‘Au Puit’ signed Bréant à Paris (Jacques-Thomas Bréant 1753-1807), modelled as a well. The signed 4¼” (11 cm) white convex enamel dial having decorative pierced gilt hands and black Roman numerals within an Arabic five minute track, the eight-day spring driven movement striking the hours & half hours and set in a drum case held aloft within an arched frame entwined with trailing fret-work ivy and surmounted by a floral finial with a bucket and counter-weight suspended on gilt chain either side. The cylindrical grey marble well carved with brick-work and mounted on a white marble plinth with gilded bollards strung with chain to the corners above the toupee feet, 19¾” (50 cm) high.
