A Rare, Antique Welsh Carved Oak Folk Art Bench of exuberant design. The back rail carved in the form of two serpentine creatures above a chunky pierced centre splat carved with twin anthropomorphic figures kissing, and square uprights carved with rosette roundels. The arms formed from boldly carved dragonesque beasts with coiled tails on square chip carved front supports leading down to an enclosed cupboard base. The 2½” (6.5 cm) thick slab seat gouge carved with naively drawn creatures above two panel doors each depicting a profiled full length portrait of a seated man; one with a sword, the other a book, with a pilgrim adorning the central muntin. Standing on carved sledge feet 36½” (93 cm) high, 41” (104 cm) wide, 17” (43 cm) deep.*
