A Pair of Oak Wainscot Chairs in the 17th Century Westmorland Style. The shaped cresting rails carved with initials IB & date 1697 to one, and RB to the other, edged by a raised twin-reed border and having small scaly creatures with scrolled tails either side forming the pierced lobe terminals. The back panels emblazoned with a crossed pair of S-scrolls tied with an inter-laced guilloche knot to the centre and enriched with leafy terminals and ball flowers. The uprights flanked by S-scroll spandrels. The scroll end arms on turned posts above plank seats raised on turned legs united by peripheral stretchers, 44½” (113 cm) high, 24” (61 cm) wide, 17” (43 cm) deep.
