A 16th/17th Century Miniature Roundel with a finely painted depiction of The Holy Family, an angel to one side, a woman knelt in adoration to the other alongside an elderly man in hooded clock holding a staff inscribed CHA TAS to the finial. Incorporating a tiny scroll with indistinct inscription to the centre bottom edge, 2½” (6.5 cm) in diameter. Mounted on card and set in a 19th century turned ebony frame with granulated gilt slip, inscribed in ink on verso; ‘From R Southey’s Greta hall Keswick Bought at Miss BA Hill’s sale at Church St Warwick Grand Daughter of Robert Southey Poet’.
