Description
A Splendid and Rare 19th Century Gilt Bronze Double-faced Clock Set in the Louis XVI Style. The clock movement set in a drum case raised on a sweeping pedestal base with voluted acanthus scrolls to the sides and panels of pierced trellis work overlay, festooned in laurel garlands. The movement having an enamelled dial either side signed MON. VERNET Des Chevailles Succr. Rue du Bac 42, within a ring of dark blue enamelled Roman numerals counting the hours and an outer ring of black Arabic numerals counting every five minutes, with intricately pierced and gilded hands. The movement case flanked by finely cast lions’ heads bearing tasseled loop handles in their mouth, and surmounted by a lidded urn, 22 in (56 cm) in height. The accompanying six light candelabra 22½ in (57 cm) in height.
