A Good 19th Century Lignum Vitae Pestle & Mortar; the mortar of half sapwood, half heartwood, having a slightly waisted bowl over a stepped circular foot 5?” (13.7 cm) high, the slender ring-turned pestle with a spherical terminal, 4½” (11.3 cm) in length. Together with another small lignum vitae mortar and original pestle probably 19th century and for pharmaceutical use; the mortar of plain vase shape with a blade knop to the base of the tall narrow bowl, over a slightly domed base, 5¾” (14.5 cm) high, the pestle of slightly tapering form with two incised lined to the centre, a flat top and rounded lower end, 6¾” (17 cm) in length. Also a third mortar of tapering cylindrical shape with a slightly domed integral base with turning lines to the underside and interior, probably 19th century beech wood, 4?” (12.4 cm) high, 4¼” (10.6 cm) in diameter.
