Description
A 17th Century Style Embroidered Silk-work Mirror. The rectangular glass edged in metallic silver-gilt braid with bullion-stitched whorls to the corners, set in a shaped surround clad in padded ivory silk and worked in coloured silks and metallic threads with atypical motifs; A lady lutenist to the top and base centre sat between tree issuing over-sized fruit and acorns, a leaping dog in pursuit of a stag to the top with palatial buildings to the corner roundels, and lion and unicorn to the base. The sides embroidered with depictions of Charles II & Henrietta stood beneath crowned gazebos interspersed with flowers and insects, 26¾” x 22½” (86 cm x 57 cm).
