Description
A Fine Late 17th Century Caned & Carved Walnut Armchair & Foot Stool. The armchair with an oval caned back panel in a pierced frame surmounted by a open carved cresting rail with a pair of winged cherubs bearing a crown to the centre amidst lavish scrolls of acanthus & berries. The barleytwist uprights surmounted by carved finials. The arms enriched with chains of flowers and foliage and having carved rosettes to the terminals above spiralling posts leading down to the barley-twist legs united by an H-form stretcher and a pierced decorative front rail, 49 in (125 cm) high, 25 in (63.5 cm) wide. The rectangular foot stool having a caned top with chip carved frame on short barley twist les united by conforming peripheral stretchers, 8 in (20 cm) high, 20 in x 13 in (51 cm x 33 cm).
