A Rare & Interesting English 16th Century & Later High-backed Armchair. The top rail carved with inscription ANO DNI 1577 ANO REGINE 19, and surmounted by a domed cresting piece with radial stop-fluting fanning out to a dotted border of dowel inlay, topped by a turned central finial. The tall panel back tapering down at the base, ornamented to the front and back with channeled geometric bands between stop-fluted uprights; the facade centred by carved initials HE and framed in carved egg & dart moulding. The later padded drop-on seat with crimson velveteen upholstery stuffed with horsehair, above scalloped seat rails on baluster turned legs united by moulded peripheral stretchers, 52½” (133 cm) high, 20” (51 cm) seat height, 24” (61 cm) wide.
