A Fine Charles I Carved Oak Coffer of rich colour and patination. The twin-panelled lid with applied border moulding to the panels in a channel moulded framework on iron loop hinges opening to reveal a trough to one end of the interior. The richly carved facade composed of two arcaded panels; each with twin arches on fluted pilasters framing ‘flower-potte’ carving. The frieze rail ornamented with relief carved male heads; possibly Charles I portraits flanked by undulating trails of fruiting vine defined against a recessed pitted ground. The side panels carved with lozenge motifs, the base rail with scrolling strap-work. 25” (65 cm) high, 50” (127 cm) wide, 22½” (57 cm) deep.
