A Fine Quality 19th Century French Ormolu & Bronze Figural Mantel Clock; the elaborately cast & chased case incorporating illustrative creatures from Aesop’s Fables. The movement striking a bell and set in dark patinated rocky outcrop; the silvered dial below a tree stump, with the gilded figure of an 18th century scholar sat to one side above a small gilt mouse, and a fox with front paw resting on an open book to the other. The decorative plinth base featuring the fox & crow, and wolf & crane amongst scrolls of foliage, centred by a crested cartouche above C-scrolled base embellished with fruit pendants, 19½” (50 cm) high, 16” (40 cm) in width.
